Hi, I’m Ed 👋

I’m a dating and relationship coach, and my mission is to help gay and bi men build better relationships and find more community.

I come to coaching after more than a decade as a full-time musician, where I worked on projects at Arizona Theater Company, the Soho Theatre and with the BBC Singers. I also edited music for ITV’s gay sitcom Vicious, and got to accompany Ian McKellen at the piano one time.

I’ve always been a personal development fan, but it was writing and researching my book Boys Who Like Boys that gave me a unique understanding of the issues gay and bi men wrestle with in our relationships — and why we need specialized support to work through them.

I have more than twenty years’ experience teaching and coaching music, but after seeing the impact Boys Who Like Boys was having, I decided to train formally as a coach and start working with queer men 1-to-1.

Since then, I’m honored to have become one of the Internet’s favorite gay coaches, and to have helped hundreds of queer men navigate dating and relationships more confidently — or just love and advocate for themselves more.

Building relationships as gay and bi men comes with specific challenges — we’re a small dating pool, and the trauma and rejection we face from growing up gay or queer massively affects how we see ourselves, and how we connect with each other.

I trained as a coach to help queer men overcome these challenges so they can find the confidence and skills to find more connection in their personal lives.

I also coach because I know first-hand how difficult finding genuine connection in our community can be — and how I struggled to find the right support when I needed it in my own life.

Coaching is genuinely the best channel I know of to help queer men undo all the internal stuff that keeps us stuck so they can start building more fulfilling and more authentic relationships, and I’m so proud to be doing this work.

Oh, and because lots of people ask: I’m 37 and originally from Yorkshire in the UK. I have a weird accent because I’ve previously lived in London, New York and as a digital nomad, and now in Barcelona. I’m about three-quarters fluent in Spanish and when I’m not working I have the very gay-clichéd hobbies of traveling, reading, working out, going to the beach and spending time with family and friends.

Thanks for visiting Better Gay Dating and becoming part of this growing community of men who want to experience life and love more deeply.
